In our goal towards maintaining a campus safe and emotionally stable for our students, our school has adopted a school uniform t-shirt.
The shirt may be purchased from the front office for $12.
Elementary student shirts are green. Intermediate student shirts are either red, blue, or black, depending on the student's grade level.
For the school year 2025-2026, 6th grade is black, 7th grade is red, 8th grade is blue.
Tops: Students are expected to wear their school uniform shirts daily. Wearing our Waimānalo School uniform instills community and school pride. Shirts must be worn in the manner that they are made without any changes. Students may not mark, rip or tear shirts, nor may they roll or tie the bottom of the shirt.
Bottoms: Students may wear long pants, capris, shorts, or skirts in any color. Bottoms must be fingertip length and not made with a see-through fabric. They must fit properly and be secured at the waist with no undergarments or posteriors showing. Bottoms must not have tears, rips, or holes above the knee.
Outerwear: During extremely cold temperatures, sweatshirts, jackets, and sweaters may be worn over the uniform shirt. Long-sleeved tee shirts may be worn under the school uniform.
Footwear: Footwear is required attire for all students. Covered shoes are required for P.E. classes and lunch duty.
Identification: The student ID card is mandatory and must be on your person, and be able to be presented when asked. It should be attached to your shirt or pocket at all times. Keep your ID in good condition. If it becomes defaced, damaged or lost, you will be required to purchase a new ID ($5.00 charge applies). Your ID is for your use. Do not lend your ID to any student for any reason. IDs are required for lunch. Students without an ID will eat after all students with an ID have been served.
Uniforms (including IDs) may not be defaced or altered in any way.
Headwear (such as caps, hats, hoods, visors, dark glasses, and bandanas) are not permitted to be worn in class. The exception is hats and sunglasses may be worn outdoors only.
Any clothing (including jewelry, wristbands, buttons and other accessories) that may create a classroom distraction is prohibited. Prohibited clothing includes:
Clothing referencing the following: drugs, tobacco, alcohol, sex, violence, profanity, illegal and/or gang related.
Clothing that is strapless, see-through, low cut or exposes the midriff, backside, and/or undergarments.
The consequences for dress code infractions are:
First Referral: Call parents to bring appropriate garment. Student will turn over the inappropriate garment to the administrator/counselor and wear an “office” shirt until parent brings appropriate attire; student will attend class. If parent does not come, student will continue to wear “office” shirt. Parents will be contacted. Inappropriate garment will be held for parent to pick up. Student will be counseled and warned. If student refuses to wear “office” shirt, student will be suspended for insubordination.
Second Referral: Same as first referral. Detention will be implemented. Counselors should meet with parents to resolve further incidents.
Third Referral: Same as second referral. Detention will be increased and privilege(s) (such as: dance, parties, assemblies, banquets, etc.) will be lost.
Further disciplinary action may be taken by the administration.
The consequences for students in a non-uniform shirt that meets dress code are:
First referral: Call parents to bring uniform shirt. If parent brings uniform shirt, student changes into uniform shirt and referral is waived. If student does not change into uniform shirt, student received a Class D referral (affects TARO eligibility) and detention.
Cell phones may be brought to campus if they are turned off and placed in the student's backpack or school bag for the duration of the school day. Please note that after school programs are considered part of the school day.
Cell phones or any linked devices* may be used on school grounds before 7:50 am and after 2:05 pm (1:15 pm Wednesdays) to communicate with parents and guardians for safety purposes.
If students need to place an emergency phone call during the day, they should request to use the classroom phone or ask for a pass to go to the main office to use an office phone.
Students may be subject to disciplinary action if their use of their cell phone disrupts the school's educational environment. Examples of this include, but are not limited to: cheating, bullying, harassment, recording or photographing, and violating other school rules.
Administration and staff will not be responsible for recovering lost/stolen personal items.
If students violate this policy, the following will occur:
First offense: Security will be called and the student's cell phone will be confiscated and held in the main office until the end of the school day. The student's parents will be contacted and informed of the refusal to follow the school's cell phone policy. Cell phone must be picked up from security in the front office.
Second offense: The student's cell phone will be confiscated and held in the main office until the student's parents are able to come to pick it up and they will be informed of their child's refusal to follow the school's cell phone policy. The student will receive after-school detention.
Third offense: The student's cell phone will be confiscated and held in the main office until the student's parents are able to come to pick it up. The student will receive progressive disciplinary consequences up to suspension from school.
*Linked devices include all forms of earbuds (i.e. AirPods, Beats Earbuds, etc.), and Wireless speakers (i.e. Bose, JBL, Bluetooth speakers)
The administration reserves the right to adjust these consequences on a case-by-case basis as needed. For example, extreme behaviors that violate Chapter 19 will result in suspension.
