Waimānalo Elementary and Intermediate School
Title I Information SY 25-26
Waimānalo Elementary and Intermediate School (Waimānalo School) opened in 1925 and will be celebrating its centennial this spring. We currently serve approximately 320 students in Pre-School through Eighth grade. Waimānalo School is located in the rural community of Waimānalo on the Windward side of O‘ahu. The campus backdrop is the magnificent Ko‘olau Mountain range. The student population is made up of approximately 64% Native Hawaiian, 10% Filipino students, and 26% of diverse ethnicity. Also on campus is a separate preschool facility under the management of Head Start. Waimānalo’s only feeder school for the intermediate division is Blanche Pope Elementary School. Our school receives additional Title I funding from the US Department of Education to support student achievement for all students.
Purpose of Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
A Title I, Part A program is to provide all children with a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps. (ESEA section 1001)
Title I Eligibility
We currently have approximately 320 students enrolled in grades PreK-8 with approximately 57% receiving free or reduced lunch. Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) Title 1 eligibility is based on a threshold of 47.2%. We are currently designated a Community Eligibility Provision Program (CEP) and therefore provide free meals to 100% of our students.
Requirements for a Title I School
• Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) must be conducted at each Title I school in order to gain a better understanding of the strengths and the contributing/root causes of the identified needs.
• Title I Schoolwide Plan must be written, implemented and monitored by each school. It describes how the school will improve academic achievement by addressing contributing causes of needs identified in the school’s CNA. Within the HIDOE, the school’s Three-Year Academic Plan (AcPlan) is considered to be the Title I Schoolwide Plan.
• Title1 Fiscal Form (TFF), the school’s Title I budget plan, must be aligned to the school’s CNA and the Title I Schoolwide Plan (AcPlan).
• Parent and Family Engagement activities are to improve student academic achievement and school performance.
Parent Involvement
Parents at this school are encouraged to be involved in the following ways:
● Participate in Parent Involvement activities (school-wide, grade level, conferences).
● Provide support at home for learning to be sustained.
● Maintain two-way open communication with teachers and school staff.
Title I Funds at Waimānalo School provide:
● Part-time teachers to support student learning.
● Supplemental programs and tools to enhance school curriculum.
